KROSAKI HARIMA supplies a high-function heat insulator, "WDS," developed by a German company, Porextherm Dämmstoffe GmbH. This heat insulator consists of ultrafine fumed silica and infrared opacifiers and has a fine microporous structure which disturb the movement of air molecules. Unlike conventional heat insulators which have air gap inside, WDS is capable of controlling several types of heat transfer, such as "thermal conductivirity of solid substances," "air molecule transfer," and "infrared transmission" and has achieved thermal conductivity of 0.021W/(m/k) which surpasses the value of air. In addition, WDS features a very low dependency on temperature. Compared with commonly applied heat insulators for high temperatures made from calcium silicate and ceramic fibers, WDS demonstrates significant insulation effects several times higher, and is used in various industries from steelmaking facilities to household appliances, thus contributing to energy saving and reduction in the size and weight of devices.
