Refractories for RH degasser lower vessel

High mechanical strength at high temperatures required in addition to the same characteristics as that of the upper vessel

RH degasser lower vessel bricks require both excellent thermal spalling resistance and corrosion resistance, especially against the intense erosion from FeO produced by oxygen blowing through the lance inserted from the furnace top.
Above all, the bricks lining the throat portion connected to snorkels are exposed to such severe operational conditions that excellent hot modulus of rupture is required of them.
Magnesia-chrome bricks are conventionally applied for lower vessel linings but occasionally, depending on the applied portion, direct-bonded and semi-rebonded bricks are included there.
