RH snorkel refractories

Proposing mechanical design to prevent deformation of steel core shell

Generally the snorkel is a complicated refractory assembly which is inner-lined with bricks and outer-lined with monolithic refractories on the cylindrical steel core shell.
The inner lining bricks of the upleg snorkel are so abraded by gas blowing that magnesia-chrome bricks with excellent resistance against hot abrasion are applied.
Deformation of the steel core shell after long-term operations influences the durability of snorkels. The corporation, therefore, proposes not only the refractory materials but also the mechanical design for the shell to prevent its deformation.

Delivery of bricks preassembled with high accuracy

The bricks for inner-lining the snorkel are normally assembled in advance of shipping at the supplier's workshop to fulfill the requirement of sufficient accuracy.
In the case that the brick joints between the lower vessel and the snorkel are damaged before the bricks are damaged, the corporation recommends flexible joint sheets for the joint protection, which has received positive comments from our clients.
