Refractory Highlights Conference Sweden 2025

Another successful conference for Nordic Steel producers hosted by Krosaki Harima Europe B.V. and Betker OY. Attended by a wide range of experts from the steel industry. The conference took place on 13th May with two key speeches by Krosaki Europe. The first delivered by Shiohama Michiharu as our Japanese specialist and Tuomo Leinonen (regional KEB representative) on Refractories in critical areas in EAF’s (Electric Arc Furnace).

The CARDIX™ (dense MgO-C) was presented for critical areas in EAF’s, and the increased performance also highlighted. In recent customer tests the operating period was extended from 3 to 4 weeks. Gunning was also almost halved during the trial period with this improved grade. These results were of keen interest to many, prompting questions straight away.

Then onto the second presentation at this year’s Refractory Highlights Conference was the Krosaki developed Kaizen App 2.0, presented by Jon Inchaurza, Krosaki Europe CTO. This accurately models choosing the right refractories for maximum productivity and lowest overall costs when manufacturing quality steel. When the steel industry has so much pressure, this tool assist in finding the right refractory solution for quality and value during the whole manufacturing process.

The next day there was a visit to Ovako in Smedjebacken. We were hosted openly and it was very useful to understand their production process through the EAF route and manufacture the highest steel grades.
